宿 (stay)
宿 (stay) is a new music and performance work, developed from a collaboration between Australian artists/musicians Kurinji and Singaporean artists/musicians SAtheCollective. The Singapore-first international collaborative gig-theatre style performance is built out of nine distinct scenes that integrate music, text, performance, lighting, direction and the natural environment – inspired by the philosophical, storytelling and musical traditions of South and East Asia.
This is the story of two families whose fates are intertwined despite being thousands of kilometres apart. Tsuet-Cheng is on a plane flying from Sydney back home to Singapore. We follow her family through nine hours of a “Tomb Cleaning Ceremony”, a well known Chinese ritual in which a family visits a cemetery and talks to their ancestors. Theirs is a story of globalism, capitalism, comfort and disconnection that lies at the heart of city life.
